Abstract
78 cases of compound presentation out of 2,660 parturients were experienced in a period of two and a half years from March 1972 to August 1974 in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynenology, .Chung Ang University Medical School with the following results; 1. In the course of 2,660 deliveries, 78 cases of compound presentation occurred the incidence being of once in every 34 deliveries. 2. Much higher incidence of compound presentation was observed in para 4 or more than in the less. 3. The incidence of compound presentation in the mature infant over 2,500 gm, was 6 times as high as that of premature infant. 4. Out of 78 cases of compound presentation, 76 were associated with a hand prolapse alongside the vertex (97.4%) and 2 with a hand prolapse alongside the breech. 5. The compund presentation with the left occiput was 1.3 times as frequent as with the right occiput. 6. Although there was a tendency for the left hand to prolapse alongside the left occiput, no difference between the left and right hand was noted in the right occiput compound presentation. 8. Normal delivery was possible in compound presentation of a hand with the v ertex without and special management. Spontaneous normal delivery in hand-vertex compound presentation did not affect the apgar score of the new-born.
